Le marathon olympique est une épreuve mythique, présente au programme depuis les premiers Jeux de l’ère moderne en 1896 à Athènes. Les exploits et histoires fantastiques qui se sont égrenés au fil du siècle dans l’épreuve reine des Jeux sont innombrables, au fil d’une course si dure et exigeante que personne n’y a jamais remporté plus de deux médailles. Programmé le 10 août 2024 pour les hommes et le lendemain pour les femmes, le marathon olympique de Paris 2024 fait honneur à cette épreuve mythique et empruntera un parcours inédit rendant hommage à la riche histoire qui a fait la France et Paris.

UN PARCOURS SPECTACULAIRE ET EXIGEANT

En 2024, le marathon olympique masculin et féminin prendra place sur un parcours à la hauteur de l’événement. Il reliera l’Hôtel de ville de Paris à Versailles en une boucle chargée d’histoire. Le parcours traversera neuf communes de la région Île-de-France, entre succession de monuments dans Paris, parcs et forêts emblématiques de la région parisienne et le majestueux site du château de Versailles : Paris, Boulogne-Billancourt, Sèvres, Ville d’Avray, Versailles, Viroflay, Chaville, Meudon, et Issy-les-Moulineaux.

Ce parcours à travers l’Ile-de-France en fera un profil de marathon original, et qui sera pour le moins exigeant pour les athlètes ; car la région parisienne n’est pas si plate qu’il y parait. Si un marathon est toujours éprouvant pour l’organisme, celui de Paris 2024 le sera d’autant plus du fait de son parcours, qui comprendra un dénivelé positif de 436m et un dénivelé négatif de 438m. L’inclinaison maximale sur la route sera de 13,5%.

LE MARATHON FÉMININ VALORISÉ

Le marathon est une des épreuves emblématiques des Jeux Olympiques. Depuis de nombreuses éditions, le marathon masculin prend place à la toute fin des Jeux, le dernier jour de compétition, comme un point d’orgue qui met un terme en apothéose à la quinzaine olympique. Pour valoriser les performances des athlètes féminines, cette fois-ci on inverse la donne. C’est le marathon féminin qui viendra clore une quinzaine riche en émotions le 11 août 2024, dernier jour de compétition, à quelques heures de la cérémonie de clôture quand le marathon masculin sera disputé la veille.

« Faire courir le marathon féminin après les hommes, en point final des Jeux, c’est très symbolique. Particulièrement dans le marathon, les femmes ont mis beaucoup de temps à pouvoir participer, à faire accepter aux dirigeants et à l’opinion publique qu’elles pouvaient courir de telles courses. D’ailleurs l’histoire des premiers Jeux Olympiques modernes, en 1896 à Athènes, est marquée par cela. Une femme a tenté de participer au marathon. Elle a été rejetée, on l’a empêchée de s’inscrire. Et ça a continué tout au long du 20e siècle : de nombreuses femmes se sont battues pour avoir le droit de courir, et pendant très longtemps on considérait que leur physique ne leur permettait pas de courir des courses comme le marathon. C’est donc très important que Paris 2024 mette en valeur le marathon féminin de cette manière. »

L’événement historique mis en lumière par le parcours du marathon olympique est un épisode clé de la Révolution française : la marche des femmes sur Versailles, le 5 octobre 1789.

La marche des femmes est une des premières manifestations de l’histoire, une marche révolutionnaire, populaire et féminine. Paris 2024 rend hommage à cet épisode clé de l’histoire de la France contemporaine en reprenant en partie l’itinéraire suivi par ces femmes lors de leur marche dans le parcours du marathon olympique.

Le marathon olympique est une épreuve mythique, présente au programme depuis les premiers Jeux de l’ère moderne en 1896 à Athènes. LES ATHLÈTES OLYMPIQUES SUR LES TRACES D’UNE MARCHE HISTORIQUE

Le 5 octobre 1789, 5 000 à 7 000 femmes des faubourgs populaires de Paris se rassemblent devant l’Hôtel de Ville de Paris pour réclamer de la farine, dont une pénurie met en péril la production de pain dans la capitale, affamant le peuple parisien. La foule en colère décide d’entamer une marche vers Versailles, pour y chercher le roi Louis XVI, qui y réside encore. Face au roi qui vient à leur rencontre au balcon du château de Versailles, les femmes réclament des mesures pour combattre la famine menaçant Paris et se mettent à scander « le roi à Paris ! », elles repartiront vers la capitale, ramenant avec elles le souverain, la reine et leurs enfants. Ils ne retourneront plus jamais à Versailles.

« Cette marche des femmes de 1789 représente une double symbolique. C’est un symbole de la Révolution française, une étape importante dans cette histoire fondatrice de la France contemporaine. C’est aussi un moment très fort de l’histoire des femmes, c’est une des premières fois où les femmes se rassemblent en tant que femmes pour manifester. Ce sont les femmes des faubourgs populaires de Paris qui se rassemblent car les temps sont durs au niveau du coût de la vie, il y a des pénuries de denrées alimentaires Il y a un certain ras-le-bol général dans la population et ce sont les femmes qui manifestent, car elles sont en première ligne dans cette crise sociale. Ce sont elles qui travaillent et qui doivent subvenir aux besoins des familles, trouver la nourriture, et ce sont elles qui se mobilisent. C’est un moment fort dans l’histoire du féminisme et du militantisme féminin. »

Les conséquences historiques de cette marche seront significatives, puisque le roi signera ensuite la Déclaration des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen, qu’il refusait jusque-là de ratifier. Il entérine également la fin des privilèges, et rejoint symboliquement Paris, se rapprochant de son peuple. La marche des femmes est donc un épisode déterminant dans le déroulement de la révolution Française, considéré comme une des premières manifestations de l’histoire. Un symbole d’émancipation et de revendication, auquel le parcours du marathon olympique de Paris 2024 sera plus qu’un clin d’œil, mais bien un véritable hommage.
