Aujourd’hui, force est de constater que notre monde semble plus divisé que jamais.

Alors que les guerres ressurgissent, que les communautés se replient, il y a urgence à s’inspirer d’un sport fraternel qui unit et transcende les différences : le rugby.

Sur un terrain de rugby, il a plus de choses qui nous rassemblent que de choses qui nous séparent ! Cet état d’esprit se vit aussi en dehors des stades, riche en valeurs de courage, de respect, de cohésion, de sacrifice, d’abnégation et d’humilité.

Une belle philosophie que deux passionnés du ballon ovale ont voulu transmettre à travers les vêtements en fondant la marque française Religion Rugby.

Depuis 10 ans, elle revendique une identité forte, symbole de paix et d’amitié.

Religion Rugby a remplacé les noms des XV joueurs qui composent une équipe par 15 valeurs. Toutes sont brodées sur les polos de la gamme classique, et surtout placées au cœur du travail de la marque.

Pour inviter à dépasser les différences et les préjugés, dans un vivre ensemble positif et fédérateur, Religion Rugby affiche aussi un discret damier sur les manches de ces modèles. Un symbole inspiré du Two-Tones, ce mouvement musical anglo-saxon qui, dans les années 80, luttait contre le racisme en réunissant le noir et le blanc (les couleurs du damier).

Des vêtements qui soutiennent de grandes causes

Religion Rugby donne à plusieurs associations qui lui tiennent à cœur et créées par d’anciens rugbymans :

  • « Proseatech » de Christian Califano, qui agit pour protéger les fonds marins ;
  • « Noor » de Abdelatif Benazzi, qui œuvre pour le développement de l’éducation par le sport au Maroc ;
  • « Colosse aux pieds d’argile » de Sébastien Boueilh, qui lutte contre les agressions sexuelles dans le milieu du sport.

Religion Rugby, c’est aussi la défense de l’art !

Ses collections « L’art et la marinière » valorisent l’œuvre d’un artiste réalisée en collaboration avec la marque. Elle a déjà mis un coup de projecteur sur le travail de Julien Soone, Kiko, Zoulliart, Lecoultre, Jazzu. Pour 2023, Jean-Pierre Rives réalisera une toile pleine de symboles pour la coupe du monde de rugby. Si les modalités de sa présentation ne sont pas encore totalement définies, on sait d’ores et déjà que son œuvre sera porteuse d’un message universel de fraternité et de liberté. Dans le cadre des collections capsules l’art et la marinière, Jean-Pierre Rives, artiste international et légende absolue du rugby, honore la marque en l’autorisant à utiliser son œuvre pour une collection haute en couleurs.

Une tradition de transmission qui réunit toutes les générations

Pour Religion Rugby, le textile n’est pas seulement une étoffe. Il est avant tout un morceau d’histoire qui se raconte et qui se transmet, car toutes les générations vibrent pour les mêmes valeurs universelles.

Religion Rugby fédère aussi des chefs étoilés (dont Nicolas Isnard à Dijon), des artistes, des comédiens. La dernière collaboration en date a été signée avec Chicandier qui incarne Ordralphabetix dans le dernier opus d’Asterix et Obelix de Guillaume Canet. Chicandier est un personnage truculent, un tantinet franchouillard, parfois vulgaire, mais il est avant tout l’incarnation du terroir et d’une France de clochers appréciée par les amateurs de rugby.

Il symbolise la bonne chère, la convivialité mais également une forme d’excès. Religion Rugby, c’est l’excellence et l’élégance mais c’est aussi l’humour et un esprit décalé insufflé par les mystères des 3ème mi-temps. Chicandier, à travers son nouveau personnage, Indiana Jaune, un aventurier en quête de bonnes tables, de mets savoureux, d’instant de partage, représente la valeur de l’humour au sein des ambassadeurs de la marque.

Une belle aventure portée par d’authentiques passionnés

Derrière Religion Rugby, il y a une Dream Team atypique :

  • Julien Tourtoulou (co-fondateur), ancien joueur professionnel de Colomiers Rugby pendant 11 années et ancien international espagnol ;
  • Jean-Charles Maurat (co-fondateur), ancien officier supérieur de gendarmerie (lieutenant-colonel), Saint-Cyrien et diplômé de l’école de guerre ;
  • Et Marion, qui a rejoint l’aventure depuis deux ans pour contribuer au développement de la marque

Leur point commun ? Considérer que la passion est le moteur de la réussite ! Convaincus qu’il n’y a pas de déterminisme, ils s’attachent à prouver qu’avec du travail tout devient possible.

    « Il n’y a rien d’écrit ! Un ancien joueur de rugby professionnel peut devenir un chef d’entreprise talentueux ; un ancien officier supérieur de gendarmerie peut dessiner des vêtements et élaborer une stratégie d’entreprise. »

En 2013, ces deux amis de toujours se trouvaient à un moment charnière de leur carrière : Julien allait arrêter le rugby, Jean-Charles songeait à changer de voie.

Ils ont donc décidé d’unir leurs compétences autour d’une initiative commune, nourrie des moments qu’ils avaient vécus. Car entre la vie militaire et le rugby, il y a des similitudes !

Inspirés par les combats menés, la cohésion, l’esprit de corps, le respect, le partage, l’union dans l’adversité et l’importance du groupe, ils ont fondé Religion Rugby avec seulement 15 000 euros de livret A à deux.

Pourtant, ils ont eu raison de croire en leur projet : 10 ans plus tard, cette entreprise dynamique a déjà vendu plus d’un million de pièces.

Aujourd’hui, portée par une forte demande, la marque française continue de se développer. À compter du 2 février, et pour la troisième année consécutive, elle diffusera notamment un spot publicitaire sur France 2 juste avant 10 rencontres du tournoi des VI Nations.
